We are so excited to announce a slate of candidates for SDEA Board and CTA State Council who will fight to bring strength, solidarity, and transparency to our local union and to our state affiliate!
These are the people we want leading the charge when we go into bargaining next year. These are the people we who will make sure the District can no longer use layoffs to divide us. These are the people who will make sure we actually get our raises. These are the people who will show the District a united front. And these are the people who will listen to us, and who will make sure that all of us are informed about what is going on with SDEA.
These are the people we want leading our union!
Meet the slate:
It was clear from the candidate speeches at Wednesday’s Rep. Council that our union has a clear choice to make about the path our union will take as we move into next year’s bargaining. One group of candidates believes that increased collaboration with the District is what’s best for our union, and wants to focus on building those relationships. The other group believes that in order to get a good contract and protect our jobs, we need to make our membership more powerful, and wants to focus on building that strength — and those are union leaders we need! But we won’t see these folks sitting on our SDEA Board or at CTA State Council unless we all get involved.
Here is what we all need to do if we want to elect the leadership our union needs:
· Forward this email to all of your friends in the District. Adding a personal note at the top is even better!
· Print out our flyer (download HERE) and share copies. You can bring them to your next union meeting, hand them out to your friends, or place them in your coworkers’ mailboxes. This flyer is part of the official election materials being sent by SDEA, and we are absolutely allowed to share them in our District mailboxes.
· Host a voting party at your site, and let the other teachers know way in advance. Ballots go out on March 4, and need to be received at the SDEA office by 5 p.m. March 15.
· Invite a candidate out to speak at your school. Just reply to this email and let us know when and where! Union members need to start talking to each other!
This is such an exciting time for our union. We CAN build the union we want — so let’s do it!
